Dear Commissioners of the California Coastal Commission, I respectfully ask that you please approve the Great Highway permit application (2-24-0933). The creation of Ocean Beach Park will be an incredible improvement to coastal access and recreation in San Francisco. A majority of San Franciscans voted for Proposition K and the election is now certified; San Franciscans now expect that government efficiently and quickly puts it into effect. As such, I ask the Commission to approve this application so the city can open this unique stretch of urban California coastline for all to enjoy. This application will transform two miles of space used for non-coastal purposes into one that furthers Coastal Act goals by maximizing public access and recreation and protects and improves the coastal environment. As the staff report states, this project represents"a substantial multimodal improvement and a significant public access enhancement that helps to maximize public recreational access as directed by the Coastal Act." Better yet, it does so while restoring dune habitat and creates the foundation for a robust public process to plan a future coastal park. Protection of our coast is particularly important to me. That's why I'm glad the San Francisco Estuary Institute's report states that this project provides the "greatest and most immediate ecological benefits" for the coastal environment. With thanks for your work to create a better California coast,
Thank you for helping to make Ocean Beach Park a reality!
